Contemplating a vacation to one of the Disney Theme Parks and Resorts? Many people plan for the summer months when kids are out of school, but summertime at Disney Theme Parks can be chaotic at best. With longer lines, soaring temperatures and loads of humidity, it’s a less than ideal situation for having the best Disney experience, especially when traveling with children.
If your schedule allows, considering visiting the Disney Parks during the fall, when temperatures are more manageable and crowds have subsided. As an added bonus, each of the parks around the world have special fall and Halloween events. Here’s a round up of all the fall events at each of the Disney Parks worldwide.
As September winds down, the Disneyland Resort kicks off its Mickey’s Halloween Party on select nights through the Halloween season. This extra-admission event is one of the most beloved annual celebrations at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Look for a special parade, Halloween fireworks, trick or treat stations and even a special dance party. Costumes are allowed but they recommend against dressing as Disney characters and, if you choose to come in a Disney themed costume, you are prohibited from taking photos with other guests or signing autographs.
Very similar to Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland, Walt Disney World kicks off their Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, known to most as MNSSHP, in early September. There are live performances, the ‘Boo to You’ parade, trick or treat stations, special character meet-and-greet opportunities and more. Like Disneyland’s Halloween Party, it is an extra admission event and costume restrictions exist.
Hong Kong Disneyland goes all out with their annual Halloween event, which comes to life most evenings from late September through Halloween. It’s the most sinister of any Disney events, featuring scary walk-through mazes designed around each year’s theme. There are special foods, a Halloween parade, and lots of ghoulish characters lining Main Street.
Tokyo Disney Resort throws a big bash for Halloween, which sees both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea completely transformed. With live shows, special parades, loads of seasonal merchandise, and some of the best themed food available, Halloween at Tokyo Disney is hard to beat. The annual event typically kicks off around September 9 and during the first week and then again just before Halloween, costumes are allowed at Tokyo Disneyland. Unlike the other parks, here the requirement is you MUST come dressed as a Disney character -- and locals go all out! Handmade costumes abound, some of which are nearly identical to parade costumes and seasonal outfits worn by Mickey and Friends.
Disneyland Paris is the smallest of the Halloween celebrations at the Disney Theme Parks, but there is a live stage show, special villain meet-and-greet stations, park decorations, and some themed food. Although it’s a much smaller-scale celebration, it’s certainly worth a visit if you are looking to visit Disneyland Paris in the fall.
