What is AD&D Insurance?
Why should you consider accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance for travel? Although travel is often considered a way to escape stress, keep in mind that you are may still be at risk for injury. Perhaps even more so than usual if you are unfamiliar with the area or if you are participating in adventurous activities.
AD&D is offered in many of our travel insurance plans, which can cover you 24-hours a day. There are two types of AD&D insurance – (1) regular AD&D and (2) AD&D Common Carrier Air Only Coverage.
Regular travel accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage provides a benefit if loss of life or limb occurs during a covered trip, up to the limit defined in the plan. Common Carrier Air Only AD&D provides coverage only for events that may occur while riding as a passenger on an aircraft from a regularly scheduled airline or charter company.
Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) travel insurance can provide coverage for losses of the following as a result of an accident:*
- Life
- Either one or both hands or feet
- Sight in either one or both eyes
*This is not meant as an exhaustive list and you should consult your policy for a full list of benefits. The percentage of maximum benefit amount payable varies based on the loss. You should consult your policy for the Table of Losses.
What is Accidental Death Flight Insurance?
Accidental death flight insurance, or AD&D Common Carrier Air Only, provides coverage for any injury or death sustained while boarding, riding on, exiting from, being struck by, or run down by an aircraft. The AD&D plan you purchase will come with a Table of Losses – which details benefit amounts in the event of a covered loss.
