Spring Break and Travel Insurance

Travel insurance and spring breakSpring break isn’t just a week - for the travel industry it’s a whole season. The earliest spring breaks may already be over...there are many northern and Canadian schools that had spring break in mid-February. But for most of the country, spring break is just beginning or just a few weeks away.

Whether your clients booked their spring break plans months ago or are looking for a last-minute getaway, travel insurance is a must. Here are a few reasons why:

1. Medical Emergencies Know No Bounds

A medical emergency can happen at any time, in any place, and having a medical travel insurance plan can protect against unexpected - and costly - medical expenses. This type of insurance should be a requirement for international travel, where many US-based health plans may not provide adequate coverage. But it’s also good to have for domestic travel as well. For example, if your client is in an accident and requires an upgraded flight to get home, travel medical insurance can help.

(An important note for college-age spring breakers: Travel insurance benefits do not cover for any loss due to being intoxicated or under the influence of any controlled substance unless taken as administered or prescribed by a physician.)

2. Lost Luggage Happens

The right travel insurance plan will include benefits for lost or delayed luggage. A family trip to Orlando can quickly be ruined if Mom’s suitcase doesn’t arrive when expected. Travel insurance will help resolve the problem as quickly as possible and pay for incidentals during the delay.

3. Rental Car Coverage Is Expensive

Travelers who rent cars are often faced with the “Do I, or Don’t I?” decision when they are asked if they want insurance by the car company. RoamRight’s travel insurance plans have optional rental car coverage that is often cheaper than the ones offered by the company while still having important benefits. One key benefit includes covering any fees imposed by the rental car company while the car is being repaired. Travelers may not realize that if the car is in an accident, the rental company can charge them for the days lost during the repair time. Travel insurance can help cover that.

So if your clients are planning spring break trips, make sure to offer them travel insurance. Even if they do not need traditional trip cancellation benefits, there are still many other benefits available to them!
