Despite the freezing temperatures, winter is one of the best times to visit the Tokyo Disney Resort. Typically kicking off in early November and running through December 25th, Tokyo Disney hosts events at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
Look for a 15-meter Christmas tree adorning the center of the World Bazaar. The seasonal parade is always a treat, and look for new merchandise and food each season.
In addition to the seasonal Christmas parade, there are several holiday overlays on popular attractions. You won’t want to miss Haunted Mansion Holiday at the Haunted Mansion attraction, which mimics the popular one at Disneyland in California. It’s a Small World is also redone for the holidays, becoming It’s a Small World Holiday. Another not-to-miss attraction is the holiday Country Bears Jamboree. This iconic attraction was removed from Disneyland in California, so it’s a popular show for die-hard Disney fans.
You’ll find themed Christmas trees in each of the lands at Tokyo DisneySea. If you love the live shows at Disney, you won’t want to miss the seasonal Christmas daytime and evening shows at Tokyo DisneySea.
Some of my favorite Christmas-themed menus are found in the DisneySea restaurants – try for a reservation at the S.S. Columbia. Don’t miss the special foods at the official Disney Hotels either.
If you’re visiting Disney past December 25, you’ll find that Tokyo Disney transforms back to a regular everyday décor on December 26. Unlike Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida, the Christmas decorations and merchandise are promptly removed at park closing on Christmas night.
Tokyo Disney will kick off a New Year’s program January 1 through January 5, which features colorful Japanese decorations and merchandise themed to the new zodiac animal for the year. Traditional New Year’s cuisine will be offered and guests can take photos with Disney characters dressed up in kimonos.
Unlike the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World Resort, Christmas Fantasy and Christmas Wishes do not require separate admission tickets.
Christmas is not necessarily a religious celebration in Japan, but rather a time that many couples engage in romantic dates and fancy celebrations. Expect to see people dressed very nicely, far nicer than you may be used to seeing at Disney Parks at other times of the year.
Expect large crowds on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day itself. If you’re hoping to eat at restaurants like Blue Bayou, try to get reservations ahead of time or plan to immediately head to secure a same day reservation when the park opens.
Depending on the day of the week Christmas falls, avoiding Disneyland on a Saturday is highly recommended. It’s not uncommon for Saturdays to reach maximum capacity during the holidays.
Where’s your favorite place to visit during the holidays?
