Located in the southwest of France, the famous wine region of Bordeaux is one of the most popular in France. From the bright lights of Bordeaux city to the rolling vineyards and gorgeous views, it’s easy to see why Bordeaux is a much sought after destination.
Many first time visitors don’t spend enough time in the city of Bordeaux itself, a shame since this UNESCO World Heritage listed city is worth a visit in its own right. City leaders in recent years have undertaken an expansive campaign to clean up the historic core and today tourists are met with gleaming buildings and quirky streets and alleyways through which to wander. But the main reason for traveling to Bordeaux is of course the wine, some of the best in the world. Traipsing through vineyards like Mouton Rothschild, it’s easy to succumb to the beauty of the natural surroundings. There are plenty of other things to do though in addition to wine tastings. Stop off at another UNESCO World Heritage listed town, Saint-Émilion. The Romans were the first to plant vines in this part of the country and the history that has ensued is painted on every facade in the city. A personal favorite activity is to stop by any of the many macaron shops in town since Saint-Émilion is where this confectionery got its start.
No matter what you choose to do during your stay in Bordeaux, there is no doubt that it truly is one of the most beautiful and interesting places to visit in France.
