Five Romantic Chicago Hotspots

When people think “romantic cities,” they often think of Paris, New York and Venice. Chicago, however, usually doesn’t make this list. Maybe it’s the deep dish pizza or the rowdy sports culture, but it is often viewed as a meat-and-potatoes city, rather than one that inspires heart flutterings. These five spots prove that Chicago offers as much romance as any where else.

1. Buckingham Fountain

This landmark, located in Grant Park, is an ornate beaux arts-style fountain modeled after those at the Palace of Versailles. The surrounding grounds, which offer views of the busy Loop’s skyline, is the perfect spot for a picnic. At night, a light show and water display is held every 20 minutes, perfect for enjoying next to your belle or beau.

2. Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park Zoo, a free attraction year-round, offers an oasis in the center of the city. Grab a quick bite at the lagoon-side Café Brauer before exploring the zoo, or head over to the adjacent Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. Rather than give a dozen roses, you can get your botany on while exploring lovely greenhouse enclosures filled with more flowers than your florist can carry. Also wander through the Butterfly Haven and interact with over 1,000 varieties of the beautiful flyers.

3. Signature Room

Chicago is the birthplace of skyscrapers, so it’s only appropriate to take it all in from the top. While the Willis Tower (formerly Sears) offers the tallest view, the Signature Room lays out the city in glorious, sparkly relief at night. Sit down to a meal or cocktail with your honey and watch Chicago twinkle.

4. Belmont Harbor at Sunset

Chicago’s lakefront is one of its major attractions. Along the southern facing Belmont Harbor on the city’s north side, it’s no surprise why. Stunning views and quiet walks lend an air of romance. Wile away the hours watching docked boats bob up and down on Lake Michigan’s placid waters.

5. Second City Chicago

There is nothing more attractive and romantic than laughter. At Second City Chicago, take in a show with the city’s rising comedy stars, a perfect date for making memories. You can also indulge in an improv class with your significant other, learning what tickles their funny bone.
