Three Adult-Friendly Activities in Hershey, PA

Hershey, Pennsylvania is known around the world as the Sweetest Place on Earth, thanks to the chocolate empire headquartered there. It’s also well known as a family travel destination, due to the massively popular Hershey Park and the nearby activities that are all great for kids. It is also a fantastic destination for adults-only though, couples looking for a romantic retreat. Of all the great options, these are my top choices for an adult-friendly weekend in Hershey.

1. Cocoa Massage 

Built in the midst of the Great Depression, the Hotel Hershey is a throwback to another time. Little has changed in the hotel and the same level of luxury and grandeur that welcomed guests in the 1930s still exists for today’s travelers. While there are many activities in and around the Hotel perfect for adults, one of my favorites is the famous Cocoa Massage at the Hotel Hershey spa. Using cocoa scented essential oils, guests can enjoy an hour-long massage to work out those kinks while walking away smelling like their favorite chocolate bar. It’s definitely unusual, but the experience is relaxation at its best.

2. Chocolate Flight

The Hershey Story, located in downtown Hershey, is a world-class museum that serves to educate visitors about the history of Hershey, his company and the town. In the bottom of the museum though at the Café Zooka is a unique tasting experience, the Countries of Origin Chocolate Tasting. For $10, the experts at the café lead guests through a tasting experience featuring drinkable chocolate from around the world. Just like a wine tasting, the experts point out the unique notes and flavors that each region produces and by the end you will walk away with a better understanding of just how much chocolate can change around the world. This is a really fun activity and one that I consider a must-do for any visitor to Hershey.

3. Hershey Gardens

Located in front of the famed Hotel Hershey on a hill overlooking the town of Hershey sits the world-famous botanical gardens. Started originally by Milton Hershey himself in 1937, the gardens originally featured a 3.5 acre rose garden. On the first day it opened, more than 20,000 people came by to marvel at the natural delights and that level of enthusiasm has never gone away. Over time the garden has expanded to include: a Children's Garden, herb garden, Japanese garden, magnolia grove, oak grove, ornamental grass collection, perennial garden, conifer collection, two substantial rose gardens, and a seasonal flower garden. What hasn’t changed is the romantic feeling of solitude everyone who visits gets as they roam the massive collection.
