Not-To-Miss Cities In Europe

Ahhh...Europe! Europe is splendid for both new and seasoned travelers alike. The continent is world-renowned for its wonderful cities that greet tourists with the smell of freshly baked bread wafting in the air, ancient sites that most dream of visiting and friendly, warm locals.

Every city in Europe has it own claim to fame whether it is a famous landmark, signature dish or interesting history. This makes for endless variety across the board for both short and long-term travelers. Often, two different cities in the same country can feel completely different.

Here is a list of the top cities in Europe that visitors should put on their European bucket list according to me at least.

Rome

Rome is the perfect city in which old meets new. From visiting popular tourist sites like the Colosseum and Vatican City to strolling tiny alleyways in search of the best gelato, visitors are unlikely to get bored when in Rome, Italy.

Standing in a city that has been around two and a half millennia longer than any city in the United States is also incredibly humbling. However, what makes Rome one of Europe's top cities is the combination of the people, food, history and atmosphere.

Rome is simply bursting with things for visitors to see and experience.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is infamous for a few reasons and because of these, other aspects of the city are often overlooked. It has a gorgeous canal system that runs throughout this remarkably clean city filled with lush green parks. Amsterdam is also one of the most biked cities in the world. In fact, there are almost as many bikes as people in the city.

Life moves at its own pace in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Spend your time cycling through the wide variety of beer halls, reading a book as you sip on coffee at a cafe, or experiencing the thrilling nightlife. Whatever choice you make, you can not help but enjoy this European hot spot.

Paris

The city of love is one of the most visited cities in the entire world and for good reason. Paris is utterly charming and a great place to visit for first-time visitors to Europe. This city woos you like a new love with its great beauty, unique architecture, gorgeous gardens and of course delicious food.

Paris is massive but for the complete experience, and to see what makes it one of the top cities in Europe, I suggest walking as much as you can and before long, you will find yourself yielding to its magic and wanting to never leave.

Sip wine in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, wander through world-class museums, and spend time scouring the bakeries. No matter what you do, it is almost impossible to waste time in Paris, France.

Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain, is a lively city that should also be experienced on foot. Thanks to the help of Antoni Gaudi, the famous architect, Barcelona has some of the most stunning architecture in all of Europe.

However, this city also offers the best of both worlds for it has sandy beaches, wild nightlife, and delicious food. Barcelona is perfect for travelers wanting to experience some of the grandeur of Europe and yet, hit the waves and relax along the beach.

Cesky Krumlov

One of the biggest draws of visiting Europe is the tiny medieval towns spread across the continent. My personal favorite is Cesky Krumlov in Croatia.

This little city is so well preserved that it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What makes Cesky Krumlov one of the top places in Europe is how much you can actually find to do in such a small city.

You can spend your time wandering the museums, visiting the city's amazing walls, admiring the bear living in the castle moat, or rafting down the river that runs through the city. With each passing step, you feel more and more as if you have been transported back to the 14th century.

Budapest

Budapest is appealing to travelers for many reasons. The city is cheap, striking, and electrifying. The most popular thing to do in Budapest, and one I highly recommend, is spending an afternoon just relaxing in the thermal bath houses.

Also, make sure to spend some time checking out the Fisherman's Bastion, walking across the Chain Bridge, and visiting the Parliament Building. It's hard to go wrong in this exciting and always surprising city.

From the tiny streets and welcoming locals of small medieval towns to the vast museums and towering sites of the large cities, Europe is one of the most diverse and friendly continents in the world. No matter which ones you choose to visit, these cities will leave you with a desire to visit Europe again and again.

What are some of your favorite cities in Europe?
