Kerouac’s On the Road sitting on your lap as you stare out the window watching rolling hills and quirky shops pass by. This is one of the great American experiences: road tripping. It’s a rite of passage you must conquer before becoming an official road warrior. But before you drop everything and jump into the car, here are a few tips for your great journey across the USA.
There is nothing more dangerous than getting road hypnotism. Make sure to take a few moments to stretch your legs during your gas stops. If you do find yourself falling asleep, take advantage of the nation’s amazing rest stops to catch a few Zs before moving on. Also, know you limit on coffee and high energy drinks. Being strung out and shaky on the road is not any better than being sleepy.
If you’re not in a rush, make sure to take time and explore new areas. Get lost, find an awesome roadside attraction, take your picture next to State Line signs, stick your arms out of the car and feel the wind (if you’re the passenger, that is).
Sure it may look a little gruff but truckstops and diners have some of the best road food. Take part in this important American tradition.
Make your own trip soundtrack and have something that will not only keep the long driving times fun and entertaining but you have something to look back at with a flood of nostalgia later in life.
You have no clue how many sticky situations this will get you out of. Be it spilled coffee, an emergency stop on the side of the road, or lack of toilet paper in gas stations or rest stops, bringing that little roll of paper could be the best decision you make.
By following these 5 great tips for your next road trip, you can be on your way to an epic journey!
